Can she halve the work for her husband? (5)
I believe the answer is:
woman
'can she' is the definition.
'woman' can be an answer for 'she' (I've seen this before). I am not sure about the 'can' bit.
'halve the work for her husband?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'work' could be 'man' (man can mean to work or operate (e.g.) a machine) and 'man' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'wo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for woman that I've seen before include "person not going on stag-night" , "Lady" , "With 1a [OLD], one's rather timid" , "With 1a [NEW] a freedom fighter" , "Adult female" .)
