I believe the answer is:

eclipses

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'covers' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with perception as well as being verbs in their -s form.
Perhaps there's an association between them I don't understand?

I can't explain the rest of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for eclipses that I've seen before include "Blockings of light from one celestial body by another" , "Blocks out" , "Temporary disappearances of a heavenly body" , "that are regularly over our heads" , "Disappearances of heavenly bodies behind others" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
