Crossword Genius

Childhood home, elaborate (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

infancy

'childhood' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'home elaborate' is the wordplay.
'home' becomes 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in').
'elaborate' becomes 'fancy' (similar in meaning).
'in'+'fancy'='INFANCY'

(Other definitions for infancy that I've seen before include "First stage of life" , "Early stage of development" , "minority" , "State of early childhood" , "beginning" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
