I believe the answer is:

sweetpea

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'climber's' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'later course kilometre from summit' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'course' could be 'sweet' (sweet is a kind of course) and 'sweet' is present in the answer.
'from' could be 'e' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'e' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'pa' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sweetpea that I've seen before include "climber" , "climbing plant" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
