Crossword Genius

Comes down quietly, but with weight (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

pounces

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'comes down' is the definition.
(pouncing is a kind of coming down)

'quietly but with weight' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'quietly' could be 'p' (p for piano and quiet) and 'p' is found within the answer.
'weight' could be 'ounce' (ounce is a kind of weight) and 'ounce' is found in the answer.
A single letter 's' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for pounces that I've seen is " Swoops on".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
