Ross

I believe the answer is:

say cheese

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'cryptically fetter' is the definition.
The definition suggests a singular noun which matches the answer.

'shooter's request?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'request?' could be 'say' (saying is a kind of requesting) and 'say' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cheese' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for say cheese that I've seen before include "Photographer's phrase" , "Traditional photographer's request" , "Term used by photographer" , "Show your teeth" , "Water feature" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
