I believe the answer is:

(left-field can mean unconventional)

I cannot quite see how this works, but
'cricket' could be 'field' (field cricket is a kind of cricket) and 'field' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'left' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
