The answer and definition can be both to do with communicating as well as being present participle verbs.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'princess's longing' is the wordplay.
'princess's' becomes 'di's' (Princess Diana).
'longing' becomes 'missing' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'dis'+'missing'='DISMISSING'
