Crossword Genius

Dried fruit swelling no end (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

raisin

'dried fruit' is the definition.
(raisin is a kind of dried fruit)

'swelling no end' is the wordplay.
'swelling' becomes 'raising' (swell can mean to rise or increase).
'no end' means to remove the last letter.
'raising' with its final letter removed is 'RAISIN'.

(Other definitions for raisin that I've seen before include "sultana, say" , "A dried grape, nice in cake" , "Cultivating" , "Dried 18" , "Dried fruit" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
