Crossword Genius

Drinking hole near northern shed (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

barn

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'shed' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Large shed ' mean 'barn' so perhaps 'shed' could also mean 'barn')

'drinking hole near northern' is the wordplay.
'drinking hole near' becomes 'bar' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'northern' becomes 'n' (abbreviation e.g. N. Ireland).
'bar'+'n'='BARN'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for barn that I've seen before include "Bran stored in farm shed" , "Farm store" , "Building for farm animals" , "Type of dance or owl" , "Large farm outbuilding" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
