Drinks downed paradoxically here? (5-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

booze-up

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'downed paradoxically here?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'drinks' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'drinks' could be 'booze' (I have seen 'Alcoholic drinks' mean 'booze' so perhaps 'drinks' could also mean 'booze') and 'booze' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'up' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for booze-up that I've seen before include "Heavy drinking session" , "Drinking spree" , "Bout of serious drinking" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
