I believe the answer is:

meerkat

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'insurance mascot?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'endlessly marketed daft' is the wordplay.
'endlessly' means to remove the last letter.
'daft' is an anagram indicator.
'marketed' with its final letter taken away is 'markete'.
'markete' with letters rearranged gives 'MEERKAT'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for meerkat that I've seen before include "S. African animal" , "South African mongoose" , "Tee mark, oddly, on the four-toed catlike animal" , "Mongoose-like mammal of southern Africa" , "Mongoose-like mongoose" .)

I've seen this clue in The Everyman puzzle in The Observer.
