Crossword Genius

Expression of derision that's fruity? (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

raspberry

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'expression' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Expression of contempt' mean 'raspberry' so perhaps 'expression' could also mean 'raspberry')

I don't understand the rest of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for raspberry that I've seen before include "Fruit - spluttering sound" , "show of contempt" , "Plant" , "rude riposte?" , "Fruit; rude sound" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
