Crossword Genius

Extremely short, angular celebrity (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

star

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'celebrity' is the definition.
(I know that star is a type of celebrity)

'extremely short angular' is the wordplay.
'extremely' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters) (only the extremes of the word are used).
'angular' becomes 'ar' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'short' with its centre removed is 'st'.
'st'+'ar'='STAR'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for star that I've seen before include "Top-of-the-bill artist" , "Celestial body of hot gases" , "appear above others?" , "Sirius, eg" , "Bright" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
