Fabric modelled on openwork fabric one models (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

satinet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fabric' is the definition.
(I know that satinet is a type of fabric)

'modelled on openwork fabric one models' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'modelled' could be 'sat' ('sit' can be a synonym of 'model') and 'sat' is found within the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'net' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for satinet that I've seen is " smooth material".)

I've seen this clue in The Sunday Times and The Times.
