I believe the answer is:

freight train

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'one delivering the goods in america?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.

'father figure coach' is the wordplay.
'father' becomes 'fr' (abbreviation as in a priest's title).
'figure' becomes 'eight' (eight is a number).
'coach' becomes 'train' (both can mean to instruct a sportsperson).
'fr'+'eight'+'train'='FREIGHT-TRAIN'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for freight train that I've seen before include "Rail goods transporter" , "Non-passenger transport" , "Railway wagons coupled together to carry goods" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
