Crossword Genius

Feeding frenzy meant as a catalyser (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

enzyme

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'feeding' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'frenzy meant as a catalyser' is the wordplay.
'ENZYME' is hidden within the letters.
However, I'm not sure how this is indicated.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for enzyme that I've seen before include "Bodily substance acting as a catalyst" , "Protein substance acting as a catalyst" , "Protein product of living cells" , "Protein produced by living cell" , "Catalyst made of protein" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
