Figure of speech allowed to reflect travel in SF? (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

teleport

'travel in sf?' is the definition.
(as in teleportation in science-fiction)

'figure of speech allowed to reflect' is the wordplay.
'figure of speech' becomes 'trope' (trope can mean a figure of speech).
'allowed to' becomes 'let' (to let something happen is to allow it).
'reflect' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'trope'+'let'='tropelet'
'tropelet' written backwards gives 'TELEPORT'.

(Other definitions for teleport that I've seen before include "Sci-fi travel device" , "Move by means of telekinesis" , "Sci-fi transporter" , "Move a person instantly in dematerialised form from one place to another" , "Travel instantly (sci-fi)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
