Crossword Genius

Figures in court, playfully (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

fives

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This could be a double definition.

'figures' is the first definition.
The definition and answer can be both quantities as well as being plural nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'court playfully' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for fives that I've seen before include "bunch capable of causing injury?" , "Game similar to squash" , "horse disease as before" , "Indoor court game" , "Small numbers" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
