(I know that find can be written as discover)

'record finished' is the wordplay.
'record' becomes 'disc' (eg a CD, compact disc).
'finished' becomes 'over' (over can mean finished or ended).
'disc'+'over'='DISCOVER'

(Other definitions for discover that I've seen before include "Detect, find" , "Be the first to find something" , "Come upon" , "Find unexpectedly" , "Be the first to find or see" .)
