Crossword Genius

Fodder inducing feverishness? (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hay

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This could be a double definition.

'fodder' is the first definition.
(I know that hay is a type of fodder)

'inducing feverishness?' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for hay that I've seen before include "Cut and dried grass" , "Dried mown grass" , "Wye book town" , "Welsh festival" , "Animal fodder" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
