Ross

I believe the answer is:

gas oil

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fuel' is the definition.
(gas oil is a kind of fuel)

'georgia country providing fossil' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'georgia' could be 'ga' (abbreviation for the US state) and 'ga' is present in the answer.
'country' could be 'soil' (as in the phrase 'native soil') and 'soil' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for gas oil that I've seen before include "Fuel distilled from petroleum" , "Type of fuel" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
