I believe the answer is:

scaredy-cat

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'chicken' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'get out boxes ready with cold battered' is the wordplay.
'get out' becomes 'scat' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'boxes' is an insertion indicator (the outside letters must 'box' inside letters in).
'with' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'cold' becomes 'c' (eg on taps).
'battered' indicates anagramming the letters.
'ready' put after 'c' is 'cready'.
'cready' anagrammed gives 'redyca'.
'scat' enclosing 'redyca' is 'SCAREDY-CAT'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scaredy-cat that I've seen before include "Timid type" , "One easily frightened" , "7 across" , "Timid person (or feline?)" , "Coward" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
