Ross

I believe the answer is:

saturnine

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'gloomy' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'go to bed in a rough sea' is the wordplay.
'go to bed' becomes 'turn in' (synonyms).
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'a rough' is an anagram indicator (a rough or broken ordering of the letters).
'sea' is an anagram of 'sae'.
'turnin' put into 'sae' is 'SATURNINE'.

'looking' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for saturnine that I've seen before include "may be brooding" , "A rust nine chnage to be grave and gloomy" , "dull" , "Gloomy (temperament)" , "dismal" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
