Crossword Genius

Grab fruit that's delicious except for five 'off' bits (6)

I believe the answer is:

scrump

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'grab fruit' is the definition.
(scrumping is stealing fruit)

'that's delicious except for five off bits' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'that's' could be 'sc' (short for Latin scilicet- 'it follows' or 'that is) and 'sc' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rump' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scrump that I've seen before include "Nick apples" , "swipe them?" , "Steal apples from trees" , "Steal (fruit) from an orchard" , "Nick in garden" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
