Help spin a new tale after second? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

relief

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'help' is the definition.
(I know that relief is a type of help)

'spin a new tale after second?' is the wordplay.
'spin' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'a new' becomes 'er' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'tale' becomes 'lie' (tale can mean a lie or invention).
'after second?' becomes 'f' (rnd letter of 'after').
'er' written backwards gives 're'.
're'+'lie'+'f'='RELIEF'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for relief that I've seen before include "Person taking over another's turn of duty" , "Relatives" , "Burden lifted" , "Substitute" , "Alleviation, respite" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
