Crossword Genius

Inferior saucepan (3-3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tin-pot

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'inferior' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'saucepan' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'saucepan' could be 'pot' (I've seen this before) and 'pot' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'tin' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tin-pot that I've seen before include "(Of country/leader) poor in leadership/organisation" , "(Of a country or leader) of poor quality" , "Paltry, rubbishy" , "Scornfully worthless like metallic utensil" , "Scornfully worthless like metal vessel?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
