Ross

I believe the answer is:

plantain

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tropical food' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'insect burrowed into unremarkable' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'insect' could be 'ant' (ant is a kind of insect) and 'ant' is found in the answer.
'into' could be 'in' and 'in' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for plantain that I've seen before include "Tropical plant like a banana" , "Green-skinned banana" , "Coarse banana" , "Shrub; green banana" , "Sort of banana" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
