Ross

I believe the answer is:

beret

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'head' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'it may go to a soldier's' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is located in the answer.
'soldier' could be 're' (Royal Engineer) and 're' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'be' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for beret that I've seen before include "Soldier's cap" , "French flat hat" , "Soft flat hat" , "Round flattish cap" , "Cap with no brim" .)
