Crossword Genius

It's a good, sound man's residence (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

manse

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'residence' is the definition.
(I know that residence can be written as manse)

'it's a good sound man's' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is found within the answer.
'man's' could be 'ms' and 'ms' is present in the leftover letters.
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for manse that I've seen before include "Names (anag.)" , "Church minister's house" , "building near church?" , "Accommodation" , "church property?" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
