It's right to give a roasting about being a rascal! (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

crook

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a rascal' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'it's right to give a roasting about' is the wordplay.
'it's right' becomes 'ok' (both are affirmative answers).
'to' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other) (I've seen this in other clues).
'give a roasting about' becomes 'cro' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'ok' put after 'cro' is 'CROOK'.

'being' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for crook that I've seen before include "Twister" , "Professional criminal" , "Something kinky" , "Shepherd's staff" , "Hooked staff" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
