Crossword Genius

James Bond for one recalled mark given by Scotsman (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

etonian

'james bond for one' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'recalled mark given by scotsman' is the wordplay.
'recalled' says the letters should be written in reverse (to recall can mean to bring something back).
'mark' becomes 'note' (mark can mean to note or remember).
'given by' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'scotsman' becomes 'ian' (common Scottish name).
'note' written backwards gives 'eton'.
'eton'+'ian'='ETONIAN'

(Other definitions for etonian that I've seen before include "English student" , "Public school boy" , "Pupil at posh English school" , "Public school pupil" , "Public school kid" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
