Crossword Genius

Letter providing you with accommodation (8)

Ross

I think it could be either:

landlord

landlady

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'letter' is the definition.
(someone who lets property)

'you with accommodation' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'with' could be 'and' and 'and' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'providing' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for landlady that I've seen before include "She takes in lodgers" , "Woman letting out a property or rooms" , "Letter" , "Lodging keeper" , "She rents out property" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph and The Globe and Mail.
