Crossword Genius

Looking back, St Omer seen hazily intervening in distance (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

remoteness

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'distance' is the definition.
(I know that remoteness is a type of distance)

'looking back st omer seen hazily intervening in' is the wordplay.
'looking back' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'seen hazily' becomes 'sene' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'intervening in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'st'+'omer'='stomer'
'stomer' enclosing 'sene' is 'ssenetomer'.
'ssenetomer' reversed gives 'REMOTENESS'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for remoteness that I've seen before include "Aloof manner" , "Far-off quality" , "Distant quality" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
