Crossword Genius

Lovely place, this port out East (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

heaven

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'lovely place' is the definition.
'heaven' can be an answer for 'place' (I have seen 'Place of bliss' mean 'heaven' so perhaps 'place' could also mean 'heaven'). I'm unsure of the 'lovely' bit.

'this port out east' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'east' could be 'e' (synonyms) and 'e' is found within the answer.
'port' could be 'haven' (haven is a kind of port) and 'haven' is located in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for heaven that I've seen before include "Ideal place" , "Place of supreme bliss" , "Paradise, utopia" , "Elysium, Nirvana" , "Nirvana, paradise" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
