Crossword Genius

Lovingly taken home, lawman's clutching a tight back (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

infatuated

'lovingly taken' is the definition.
(to be 'taken with' someone is to be infatuated)

'home lawman's clutching a tight back' is the wordplay.
'home' becomes 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in').
'lawman's' becomes 'deaf' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'clutching' indicates putting letters inside.
'a tight' becomes 'taut' (I've seen this before).
'back' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'deaf' going around 'taut' is 'detautaf'.
'detautaf' written backwards gives 'fatuated'.
'in'+'fatuated'='INFATUATED'

(Another definition for infatuated that I've seen is " Besotted".)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
