Crossword Genius

Make out, staying in, you finally try fast food (6,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

minute steak

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fast food' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'make out staying in you finally try' is the wordplay.
'out' means to remove the last letter.
'staying' means one lot of letters goes inside another (stay could historically mean to imprison).
'finally' indicates one should take the final letters.
'try' becomes 'teste' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
The last letter of 'you' is 'u'.
'make' with its last letter taken away is 'mak'.
'in'+'u'+'teste'='inuteste'
'mak' placed around 'inuteste' is 'MINUTE STEAK'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for minute steak that I've seen before include "Meat dish" , "fast food?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
