Crossword Genius

Munch on a cold chop (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

'munch on' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'a cold chop' is the wordplay.
'a cold' becomes 'c' (eg on taps).
'chop' becomes 'hew' (to hew is to chop or cut down).
'c'+'hew'='CHEW'

(Other definitions for chew that I've seen before include "Process food" , "What gossips do to fat" , "Bite and grind food in the mouth" , "Work between teeth, masticate" , "Try to eat" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
