Music and the sound of bells (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

jingle

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'sound of bells' is the definition.
'jingle' can be an answer for 'sound' (thesaurus). I'm not sure about the 'of bells' bit.

'music and' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'music' could be 'g' and 'g' is present in the answer.
'and' could be 'n' (common abbreviation for 'and') and 'n' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'the' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for jingle that I've seen before include "Tune for advertisement" , "Catchy advertising tune - Pickwick Papers character" , "Advertising melody" , "upset Pickwick" , "Ditty" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
