Crossword Genius

Native American artist parking in two areas by house (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arapaho

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'native american' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'two areas by house' is the wordplay.
'two areas' means two substitutions for 'area'.
'area' becomes 'a' (maths abbreviation).
'area' becomes 'rapa' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'by' says to put letters next to each other.
'house' becomes 'ho' (abbreviation for house).
'a'+'rapa'+'ho'='ARAPAHO'

'artist parking in' acts as a link.
This may not be correct. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for arapaho that I've seen before include "tribesman" , "tribe member" , "Indians" , "Brave" , "North American native" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
