Crossword Genius

Nerve required to climb over brave person in passenger seat (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

pillion

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'passenger seat' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'nerve required to climb over brave person' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'over' could be 'on' (physically on top of) and 'on' is present in the answer.
'person' could be 'pi' (PI is an example) and 'pi' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'lli' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'in' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for pillion that I've seen before include "Passenger seat at rear of motorbike" , "Seat behind a motorbike rider" , "Back seat" , "Passenger seat at rear of motor-cycle" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
