Network parts new poems (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nodes

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'network parts' is the definition.
'nodes' can be an answer for 'parts' (node is a kind of part). I'm not sure about the 'network' bit.

'new poems' is the wordplay.
'new' becomes 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament).
'poems' becomes 'odes' (ode is a kind of poem).
'n'+'odes'='NODES'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for nodes that I've seen before include "Bumps or lumps" , "End so (anag)" , "Bulges or swellings" , "Small knob-like swellings" , "Components in a computer network" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
