Crossword Genius

No good in growing grape (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

raisin

'grape' is the definition.
(a raisin is a dried grape)

I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.

(Other definitions for raisin that I've seen before include "Dried fruit" , "Fruit for the Christmas cake" , "fruit product" , "Large dried grape" , "Dried red grape" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
