Ross

I believe the answer is:

out of it

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'clothes is wasted' is the definition.
I don't know anything about this answer so I cannot judge whether it can be defined by this definition.

'nothing in set' is the wordplay.
'nothing' becomes 'O' (O resembles 0).
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'set' becomes 'outfit' (I have seen 'Set of clothes' mean 'outfit' so perhaps 'set' could also mean 'outfit').
'o' inserted within 'outfit' is 'OUT OF IT'.

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for out of it that I've seen before include "Excluded from participation" , "Eliminated" , "is not included" , "Forlorn" , "Without a chance" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
