Crossword Genius

Now and again comes back as compere (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

presenter

'compere' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'now and again comes back' is the wordplay.
'now' becomes 'present' (the present time).
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'again' becomes 're' (prefix meaning 'again').
'comes back' says the letters should be written backwards.
're' in reverse letter order is 'er'.
'present'+'er'='PRESENTER'

'as' is the link.

(Other definitions for presenter that I've seen before include "TV person" , "Broadcast introducer" , "Radio/TV personality" , "TV introducer" , "Host of show" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
