Crossword Genius

Old poetry, lines put out with too much hype?

Ross

I believe the answer is:

oversell

'put out with too much hype?' is the definition.

'old poetry lines' is the wordplay.
'old' becomes 'o' (common abbreviation eg in OE for Old English).
'poetry' becomes 'verse' ('verse' can be a synonym of 'poetry').
'lines' becomes 'll' (I've seen this in other clues).
'o'+'verse'+'ll'='OVERSELL'

(Another definition for oversell that I've seen is " Exaggerate merits".)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
