Crossword Genius

On the mat, she almost gives gesture of indifference (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shrug

'gesture of indifference' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'on the mat she almost' is the wordplay.
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'the mat' becomes 'rug' (I've seen this before).
'almost' means to remove the last letter (most of the word but not all of it).
'she' with its final letter taken away is 'sh'.
'rug' after 'sh' is 'SHRUG'.

'gives' is the link.

(Other definitions for shrug that I've seen before include "Gesture expressing unconcern" , "Expression of unconcern" , "Gesture with one's shoulders" , "Shoulder gesture" , "Uncaring gesture" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian and The Telegraph.
