Crossword Genius

Originally galvanised iron formed the warming pan's decorative covering (4,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

gift wrap

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'decorative covering' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'originally galvanised iron formed the warming pan's' is the wordplay.
'originally' says to take the initial letters.
'pan' becomes 'rap' (I've seen this in another clue).
The first letters of 'galvanised iron formed the warming' is 'giftw'.
'giftw'+'rap'='GIFT-WRAP'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for gift wrap that I've seen before include "Parcel" , "Covering paper" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
