Parody secret language where English eschewed (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cod

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'parody' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with communicating as well as being verbs in their base form.
Perhaps you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'secret language where english eschewed' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'language' could be 'c' (C is an example) and 'c' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'od' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cod that I've seen before include "Initially, pay when you get the goods" , "to be paid for when it arrives" , "A fool of a fish" , "Fish; fake (colloq.)" , "Cash on delivery, in short, for this fish" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
