Perverse edition of Dickens classic? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

twisted

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dickens classic?' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Maybe you can see an association between them that I can't see?

'perverse edition' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'edition' could be 'ed' (abbreviation) and 'ed' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'twist' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for twisted that I've seen before include "Bent, distorted" , "Danced" , "Twirled, wound" , "Emotionally unbalanced" , "Turned round" .)
